Step-by-step guide on how to export your records from Birdlasser and import them to Birda

There are two different exports that can be performed on Birdlasser:

  1. Lifelist exports: Exports your life list from Birdlasser with a date, time and location of the first time you saw each species. If you only have a few trip cards, then we recommend that you import all of your Birdlasser Trip cards to Birda rather than importing your life list.

  2. Trip card exports: Exports all the sightings from a trip card including date, time and location for each record. If you have hundreds of trip cards, then importing them one by one will be tedious. In cases like these, you are better off importing your life list from Birdlasser.

Note: We automatically deduplicate imports so you can import as many times as you want to. Read more here.

Lifelist exports

Apple devices

Step 1: Ensure your phones time format is set to '24-Hour Time' (Settings > General > Date & Time)

Step 2: Open the Birdlasser app on your mobile phone

Step 3: Open your Lifelist (on bottom menu)

Step 4: Make sure 'All time' is selected (top left)

Step 4: Tap on 'All' to open your full life list

Step 6: Tap the ⋯ icon in the top right and select Export

Step 6: Email yourself the Lifelist.csv

Step 8: Do not open/edit the file, as this will change date formats & cause the import to fail

Android devices

Note: Birdlasser's Android life list imports are currently not supported as they are missing GPS coordinates and species scientific names. Please contact Birdlasser and request them to add the necessary fields.

Troubleshooting

If your imports fail, please try the following -

  • Do not open or rename your file before importing to Birda

  • Try clearing the cache from your browser and try again

  • Try importing to Birda through a different browser (Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet, etc.)

If you're still having trouble, please get in touch with us at support@birda.org, or use our chatbox on the website and attach your Birdlasser export.
