The 'Top Results for Location' and 'Less Likely for Location' sections in Birda's AI Photo ID feature are designed to segregate species suggestions based on the likelihood of the species occurring at the sighting location.

Top Results for Location

If we know a species has been seen at the sighting location before, then the species returned by the Birda AI model will be included in the 'Top Results for Location' list. This helps us split up species that may be very similar visually but have very different distributions.

Less Likely for Location

If we know a species has not been seen at the sighting location before but has been seen in the region before, then the species returned by the Birda AI model will be included in the 'Less Likely for Location' list. Our database of species by geographic location is pretty accurate, so if a species is showing in the 'Less Likely for Location', then it is less likely that the species is correct, even if the AI model is showing that it is visually similar.
