Over the last nine months, we've worked tirelessly to refine our mission and so, we've taken everything we've learned from the Chirp app and used the latest technology to build a brand new, state-of-the-art, user-friendly birdwatching platform called Birda. Through this superior tech we’ve made sure we can scale Birda, ship features faster, and provide all our users with a better performing and more reliable app – and it’s more fun too.

What's better about Birda?

In Birda, you'll be able to…

  • Log bird sightings, once off or multiple sightings as part of a birding session.

  • Log sightings and sessions even when you’re offline.

  • Unlock achievement badges.

  • Take part in local and international challenges.

  • Build up your life lists, automatically created by time and location.

  • See what friends, family, or other users have spotted.

  • Get species suggestions from the Birda community.

  • Choose from multiple taxonomies.

...and lots more to come!

How do I get started?

I’m an iPhone user based in Europe:

Birda is already available to all iPhone users based in Europe, and you can download it from the Apple App Store now.

I’m an Android user based in Europe:

All Android users based in Europe will get access to the app by the end of 2021. Want to start using Birda straight away? Drop us an email and we'll invite you to our Android beta testing group.

I’m based outside of Europe:

If you're outside Europe and want to start using Birda straight away, drop us an email and we'll invite you to our beta testing group, which will give you exclusive access to Birda. If you are an iOS user, click here. If you are an Android user, click here. From the beginning of 2022, Birda will be opened up, region by region, to the rest of the world.

Can I move my sightings to Birda?

Absolutely! We can easily transfer your sightings over from Chirp to Birda. Drop us an email if you'd like us to do this.

Please note: Imports will only apply to sightings that you created on Chirp. If you imported previous sightings from eBird, you’ll have to re-import them into Birda once the Birda import tool is available.

Will Chirp be shut down?

Yes, the app and website will no longer work from the 1st January 2022.

Please note: We'll keep your Chirp sightings data safe and sound for the next 6 months. If you'd like a download of your data, including photos, then please email us.

If you used the Chirp website to manage your sightings, then Birda's web app will be available soon for DSLR photo uploads and online use.

Need more info?

The Birda website has more detail on the app's features and our philosophy. And we'll be adding lots more info to it soon. We'll also keep you in the loop on any future changes via notifications within the Birda app.
